REMIND for Parents

Beginning next week, we are going to begin utilizing REMIND to send messages to parents when the band is on it’s way home, has arrived, is ready for pick up etc. We have been using Twitter to communicate this information to parents but with the greater ease of REMIND for the many parents who are not as well versed with social media we hope that using REMIND will be easier. How do you get the messages? Simply send a text message to phone number 81010 Message should read @bbmomdad Then you will be all set! You can also help us by downloading the REMIND app free of charge to your phone. The more followers we have that download the REMIND app, the more characters REMIND allows to use when sending you a message.

Welcome Mr. Carson Quick - New Color Guard Director!

Please welcome our new Color Guard Director for the coming school year Mr. Carson Quick! Mr. Quick will be coming to us from North Carolina. Mr. Myers, graciously offered his assistance with the interview process and after interviewing Mr. Quick, it was clear that he was our choice. We look forward to bringing Mr. Quick’s expertise to the Bronco Band! Carson Quick – Color Guard Director Mr. Quick comes to McKinney Boyd from Charlotte, North Carolina, and is a native of Sanford, North Carolina. As a high school student, Mr. Quick participated in color guard and played tuba throughout his high school years. Welcome Mr. Treadwell & Mrs. Teed

Please welcome our two new band staff members, Mr. Travis Treadwell and Mrs. Jennifer Teed!  After weeks of interviews where we narrowed the list of candidates down to a second round and then finally down to a third round, Mr. Treadwell and Mrs. Teed were the unanimous choices by all of those who were involved in the interview and screening process.  I know that everyone will be very excited about what these two individuals will bring to the Bronco Band and will enjoy meeting and getting to know each of them in the weeks and months to come.  Please read more about each of them in their bios below.

Travis Treadwell – Associate Director of Bands

Mr. Treadwell is a native of Lubbock, Texas, where he attended Frenship High School and was a three-time All-State tenor trombonist.

Mr. Treadwell earned his degree in Music Education at Texas Tech University, where he studied trombone under Mr. James Decker, was a member of the Goin’ Band from Raiderland, and was a member of the Symphonic Wind Ensemble under the direction of Dr. Sarah McKoin.  While completing his degree, Mr. Treadwell served as a student teacher at Hebron High School in Lewisville ISD.  Mr. Treadwell is also a past president of the Kappa Kappa Psi Alpha Omicron Chapter.

Mr. Treadwell’s has spent the last five years serving as the Associate Director of Bands at Paschal High School in Fort Worth under the direction of Mr. Bryan Wright (former director of bands at Faubion Middle School).  The Paschal Jazz Band recently returned from European tour where they performed by invitation at the Montreux Jazz Festival in Switzerland.

Mr. Teadwell’s wife Elizabeth, is a band director at Armstrong Middle School in Plano ISD.

Farewell Reception

Benefit for the McKinney Boyd Food Pantry

Our end of year Spring Concert and Senior Recognition is next Thursday, May 28th at 7:00 PM here in the MBHS auditorium. We will once again be connecting our concert to benefit our McKinney Boyd Food Pantry. As you may know, we have many students and families on our own campus who find themselves in need each year and our campus led by our assistant principal James Bambico has created a food pantry to help those families when needs arise. The Bronco Band did a terrific job restocking the food pantry a year ago and we’ve been called upon to once again help where we can. With every concert always being a free concert, we ask each audience member to bring at least one nonperishable food item to our concert next week to help replenish the McKinney Boyd Food Pantry.
